Touch Encoder Help

Device Identification

Basic information about Grayhill Touch Encoder (TE) devices can be obtained from the serial label located on the back of every unit. More in-depth information can be obtained from the Utility App if needed.

Part Number

Most information about a device is contained within the Part Number, which is the top row of information on the serial label and begins with "TE". The rest of the part number will explain the form factor, the number of encoder positions, encoder torque, knob style, platform, display and artwork, connection style, and device output. Please see the latest datasheets per the table below for complete information.

Serial Number

The Serial Number is a 7-character value that is used to track each unit produced by Grayhill. The first character is a Release letter and is used to track changes to the TE design. Those changes that impact form, fit, or function will be announced with a Grayhill Product Advisory Notice (PAN). A history of PANs can be found here. Following the Release letter is a 6-digit sequential number value. This value ties the device to the complete testing and manufacturing history.

Date Code

The date code is a 4-digit number specifying when the part was made. The format of this number is YYWW (2-digit year and 2-digit week number).

For example, a date code of 2235 would mean the part was produced during week 35 of the year 2022, or between 8/29/2022 and 9/04/2022.
